Dear Ottawa Drivers... Stop Giving Hull Drivers a Run for Their Money!
[info]sharpblonde wrote in [info]ottawa
Seriously, the number of bad drivers I'm seeing on the road with Ontario plates is ridiculous.

Here are problems I'm running across on my bike regularly,

*Being crowded and/or honked at in the bike lane when the car doing it had more than enough room (today was the kicker, some university aged guy did a u-turn on the Laurier bridge, came uncomfortably close to me, then HONKED at me when I was in the bike lane perfectly obeying the rules of the road)
*Not signaling, especially at the traffic light where you can stay on Sussex or go over the bridge to Hull. I need to go down Sussex. I stay by the curb whenever possible because I'm on a bike. The right lane is NOT a turn only lane there. Therefor, if you don't signal, I'm going to assume you are going down Sussex and I don't feel I should be in danger if I dare to start pedaling when the light changes... because the car beside me has not signaled! Probably the only reason I haven't been hit is because I'm always worried at that spot about being hit. In fact, I'm thinking I should inform the city of this problem. Maybe they'll send out cops to watch the traffic there.
*The rolling stop at stop signs. You do know this is illegal and will get you a ticket, right? Yeah? Well stop doing it! Especially when it means I have to brake abruptly because I should have had the right of way.
*The last point brings me to my last point :P Drivers acting like I don't have right of way because I'm on a bike... wrong, a bike is a vehicle, I get right of way if you would have right of way in my position! If I don't want to have to get going fast and gesture you through an intersection first, that's one thing, otherwise, please respect my right of way!

On a side note, please tell me you are not the person who left their bike chained in the market with the chain going through a DETACHABLE TIRE rather than the frame? Why not just hang a sign on it that says steal me?

P.S. Despite the complaining, I do actually enjoy biking to and from work. A lot of you are good drivers. Just, not quite enough of you when I run into at least one or two idiotic things a day and don't have THAT far to bike.

Newspaper Archives

Is there any place that keeps hardcopies of newspapers anymore? I am doing a media analysis for a class and I need to see where the article appeared in the original paper. (I can read it online through electronic archives, but I need to see the actual paper.) It was from June 19th of this year in the Globe and Mail.

(I checked the city library's website and they seem to only link to the electron databases.)

Hello, everyone. I'm registering for the coming year and I need some suggestions. I want to take 2 classes each semester (that's all I'll need to graduate) while working Mon-Fri. Does anyone know of any classes offered from 7pm-10pm or on weekends? I'm already registered for Children's Literature. I'm in general arts, but my three areas of concentration are English, History and Theatre, and I'm willing to take pretty much any arts course. Thanks.

Hello everyone! As of today my work has changed my hours so I now have the evening off and most weekends. Yeah!! I am looking for some sort of workout class to take. I'm not in great shape so I don't think a lu lu lemon boot camp would be great for me but if anyone knows anything less intense, and is starting around this time, please let me know. I would be very interested in taking a dance class of some sort too. I have a bit of dance background so beginner not necessary, but I really just want to do it for fun, so no recital or exams would be awesome. Thanks for your help!

I’ve just self-published two huge photo books about The Batcavbe. Covers and all details are behind the cut. I realise it may not be specifically geo-centric, but hopefully it is of interest to anyone interested in Goth.
